The Shadow Chancellor, George Osborne, wants us all to believe “we are all in this together”. Pull the other one! There won’t be too many families in Pendle getting the eye-watering £200,000 cut in inheritance tax that is promised by Boy George. But there will be quite a few who will lose out on Child Tax Credits and the Child Trust Fund. Osborne wants to cut eligibility for Child Tax Credits. Over 7,500 Pendle families rely on them. I’d say that’s not very family friendly. The Child Trust Fund, designed to encourage the savings habit at an early age, has over 6,700 Pendle children signed up. The Government gets each one going with a £250 deposit and then another £250 top-up at age seven. Sounds good to me. As the election campaign starts to unfold, we learn more about the backgrounds of Cameron’s candidates. They have 63 bankers and 39 people from PR and lobbying standing for election. That is quite a toxic mix. All those bankers and lobbyists neatly make the point that Cameron’s Conservatives don’t speak for us.
