Spent an hour on Pendle Community Radio chatting to my friend Tony Martin. I tell him beforehand that an hour is a very very long time. What on earth are we going to talk about to fill this empty void? He assures me the time will fly by. And so it does. Tony is a guest presenter and talks to me as his hands move nervously over the huge console. A thousand lights flash and sliding knobs move up and down. Head phones at a weird angle are on his head. He is mastering the technicalities while conversing with me, and with callers. What a star! He is multi tasking! Outside the studio, a man with a hammer is banging on a wall. Serious construction work is going on, yards away. People move in and out of the studio, carrying cups of tea. Giving advice to Tony. This is Community Radio in the raw. As I leave I am told about 8,000 listeners tuned in. How many were listening? That’s quite another matter.
