Truly astonishing things are happening. The opinion polls are giving the Liberal Democrats a huge boost and this is reflected in the betting odds offered by Ladbrokes. In Pendle, the incredibly feeble Liberal Democrat candidate, Afzal Anwar, started the campaign as a 40/1 outsider. The odds narrowed to 16/1 after Clegg’s performance in the TV debate and, today, have narrowed again to 6/1. If things goes on like this Anwar will become the favourite. For anyone who has ever heard him speak this is a truly jaw dropping prospect! If the Lib Dem surge continues unabated I predict the seat will go to Andrew Stephenson, the identikit Conservative candidate. Nick Clegg says vote Lib Dem to get Lib Dem. I don’t think so. Vote Lib Dem in Pendle and get Conservative. No doubt about it.
