For those of you out there who are tempted to vote for the Lib Dem candidate in Pendle have a read of this and watch this video. This is Afzal Anwar’s barely coherent answer to a simple, straightforward question posed at last night’s hustings at the West Craven Technology College in Barnoldswick. Question: If elected, when do you intend to get rid of the Pound? Afzal Anwar: If elected when I want to give up the pound. We were just in the last question talking about dishonesty of politicians. Over the last 65 years what this British public has not been able to understand and these politicians keep lying to them. You know everybody when I go and speak to them on the doorstep people say some say oh should we be out of Europe some say we should be in Europe. You know for the last 65 years we’ve not have not let the public decide on this issue and that’s the reason the Liberal Democrats, in their Manifesto, promise the public the people of Great Britain to decide whether we want to be in Europe or out of Europe. So it is not for me to decide it is not for any other Member of Parliament to decide. The Liberal Democrat policy on this is that we will give an option of a Referendum to the people of Great Britain and they will decide whether we want to remain in Europe or whether we want to be out of Europe and I honestly believe that we need an honest debate on this issue because this issue effects businesses in this country. That issue I meet a lot of people on the doorstep affects the immigration in this country and people are angry about it and I think that is the best solution, rather than me saying oh we want to keep the pound or whether we want to keep the Poles in or take them out. I think one and for ever we need to decide whether we want to remain in Europe or outside Europe. My personal view is that if we can do business with the rest of the world without being in the rest of the world it may be that if the British people decide that we don’t want to be in Europe then we’ll do that business with them as usual as we do it with the rest of the world. But if the British people after having an informative argument on this issue decide that we want to be in Europe then my view is if we want to be in Europe then, yes, we might join the European currency as well. Thank you. I hope I’ve answered the question. Tags:
