Afzal Anwar is hopping mad that I’ve told the world he sends his sons back to Pakistan to be educated privately. We have been invited to a meeting about Kashmir tonight at Nelson Town Hall. He is agitated. Before we get going, he tells me that where his sons are educated is a private matter and I have no right to comment. Hang on a minute. You stopped being a private individual when you signed those nomination papers. You are standing for election to the UK Parliament. You want to vote in the House of Commons on education in England, telling everyone what is good about it and what is bad, yet you want to educate your sons, not your daughters, in Pakistan. Well, I think this is a matter of legitimate public comment. And if you are upset, that’s too bad. Get used to it.
