“A Prince for a Price” is the headline in today’s Globe and Mail giving the Canadian take on the newspaper sting that ensnared the Duchess of York. The strap line continues: “Tape shows princess asking for cash, from a man she believed to be a wealthy businessman, in exchange for access to her husband” (sic) Had anyone else been caught setting up a meeting with the Duke of York for cash, then, I fear, Assistant Commissioner Yates of the Yard would be knocking on the door. Hello! Hello! Hello! What have we here then? As it is, Fergie deeply regrets the situation and the embarrassment caused. But what was in her mind when she asked for a suitcase full of cash? Prince Andrew is not just of the Blood Royal. He is also the UK’s special representative for international trade and investment. The Government says it is going to introduce a mandatory register of lobbyists. Maybe, alongside it, we should have a Royal Register of Interests. Or, if you prefer, a Register of Royal Interests. Either way, I think the Duchess has made the case for one. Tags:
