The Conservative Party Treasurer, Michael Spicer, is to resign. The Daily Telegraph reports today that the share price of his company “plunged by a fifth after it announced it was cutting its projected profits before tax from previous guidance of £311m-£347m to £295m-£315m.” Oh dear! Spicer is obviously neglecting the day job. The Times reminds us that Lord Ashcroft is also quitting as Conservative Vice Chairman after the election. I am still waiting to hear from the Cabinet Office about my FoI request concerning the undertaking Ashcroft gave about his UK residence when he was being considered for a peerage. On 28 January 2010, the Information Commissioner gave them 35 days to give me the information I want. I expect to get the bare minimum. Just what the Information Commissioner ordered and nothing more. Yet the question of Ashcroft's tax status has taken on a life of its own. No-one will be satisfied until he comes clean.
