They win an election in Burnley on the back of a crystal clear promise to reinstate Accident and Emergency at the town's general hospital.

And what happens?

The Lancashire Telegraph tells us that Burnley’s Lib Dems believe restoring blue light A&E to Burnley General could take years.

Years!

How on earth do they get away with it?

Behaving like an opposition when they are running the show.

The plodding Conservative MP for Pendle, Andrew Stephenson, wouldn’t have the brass neck to tell people his solemn pledge to reinstate blue light A&E at Burnley General would “take years”.

He prefers to say nothing.
