So… Nick Clegg accuses the Institute for Fiscal Studies of “distorted nonsense” Who do I believe in this clash of the titans? Nick “the pension is about thirty quid” Clegg or the respected IFS who tell us lower income households will be hardest hit if the richest 2% are excluded. The Acting Director of the IFS, Carl Emmerson, insists the Coalition’s “tax and benefit changes are regressive rather than progressive across most of the income distribution.” Now the TUC claims the poorest 10% of households will be hit 15 times harder than the rich. Not so, says Clegg and Co. “Fairness” is the coalition’s watchword. Even the Daily Mail has seen through that one. Elsewhere… The Office for National Statistics produces a handy little tool for those who are curious to know more about the neighbourhoods in which they live.
