It’s a big day for Pendle’s Conservative MP today (Tuesday). At 2.45pm on the button he will rise to ask the Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, about his Ministerial responsibilities. Our strong voice in Westminster will tackle Nick Clegg on a “topical” issue. Before the election, Stephenson and his coalition partner, Lib Dem Gordon Birtwistle, repeatedly gave explicit promises that they would re-open A&E at Burnley General which closed in November 2007. And so did Clegg, who proclaimed days before the election: “If we make savings we can protect A&E departments and of course reopen the A&E department here in Burnley.” So, given all the concerns about broken promises, how about something along these lines. It is short and to the point. “Before the election, my Hon Friend promised to re-open Burnley General’s A&E Department. When is this going to happen?”
