In Canada’s federal election on May 2, will we see candidates with loads of Facebook friends and high Twitter scores translate this virtual following into real votes in the ballot box? The Globe and Mail tells me that in last year’s mid term US elections there was a correlation. The site All Facebook reported that in 74% of House of Representative races and 81% of Senate races, a candidate’s Facebook fan count was an accurate predictor of victory. So, the message seems to be that if you want to win, get friends and get tweeting. Or is it quite so simple? Listen to the CBC’s Metro Morning. Their technology guru, Jesse Hirsh, explains how social media will shape the election.
