What kind of outfit is Islamic Help? The Birmingham based disaster relief charity bought the huge seven acre Grade II Brierfield Mills in December intending to turn it into a 5,000 place boarding school for Muslim girls.

That proposal, which raised huge concerns across Pendle, was blocked by the Charity Commission.

Since then, there has been any amount of speculation about what Islamic Help will do with this huge mill which was, until recently, a medical fabrics company. It overlooks the M65 and is a very imposing gateway to Pendle.

I am looking forward to meeting the trustees on Wednesday afternoon. But, despite my requests for a briefing note beforehand, explaining their hopes and plans for this key site, there is nothing.

What a very strange way of doing business.
