The super sensitive Lib Dem candidate for Pendle, Afzal Anwar, is taking the bait. I want him to speak out loudly on the big policy issues of the day and not whisper his views in dark corners. Slowly but surely he is beginning to open up. An earlier blog of mine has prompted the following astonishing admission which appears on the Pendle Liberal Democrats website. Lord Tony Greaves is, apparently, his role model. Enough said. "I rather have a master than be disowned" says Liberal Democrats Prospective MP 2.07.42pm GMT Mon 22nd Feb 2010 Afzal Anwar has hit out at Labour MP Gordon Prentice who has recently claimed Lord Tony Greaves is Afzal's master. Afzal Anwar said: "I rather have a master like Tony Greaves who has political experience and is a leading politician in Pendle than be disowned like Gordon Prentice is. "Can Gordon Prentice name one politician from the Labour party front bench that endorses his antics and his stubborn ways which have led to no change taking place in Pendle since Prentice was elected MP more than a decade ago? "If elected to Parliament by the people of Pendle I promise to work with leading Parliamentarians and community workers to ensure that Pendle gets the very best and people in Pendle are not short changed. Even if that means I have to have political masters who will steer me to deliver success for Pendle!"
