The Commons debates the Wright reforms today with voting on the proposals coming up on 4 March.

I hope the recommendations go through.

The curse of our debilitated politics is patronage. I shall vote for anything which loosens its terrible grip.

The recommendations of the Wright Committee’s report, Rebuilding the House, would fundamentally change the way in which the Commons works.

Chairs of Select Committees would be elected by the House in a secret ballot. MPs would have greater control over the parliamentary timetable. And petitions would be given a higher profile in Parliament.

Absolutely.
